See you soon, Zoe I was honoured to be awarded a place on the first ever government-accredited Streetdance Teacher's Course in August 2010. I had to go through a process of applying, followed by a 30 minute telephone interview, then send footage of a 5 minute freestyle AND an example of my choreography!! I got word just before leaving for Romania that I had been awarded a place. This is the only governement-accredited course currently IN THE WORLD!! No pressure!! FYI Dance Club was again invited to participate in the Wicklow Regatta 2010. We started off with a performance at the opening ceremony at Whitegates. Luckily the bad weather did not keep the crowds away (though an blown fuse may have kept our music at bay!!) Just a handful of students turned up for a rehearsal the day before but we were still able to perform a 4 minute crowd-pleasing routine! Well done and thank you to the students (and their parents) who turned up to rehearse and perform!
I was also invited to hold dance lessons at the teenage beauty night in the Grand Hotel. Definitely strutting up and down the cat-walk was my regatta highlight!!! And I finished off my Regatta Duties at the Teddy-Bears Picnic, which had ro be moved to the GAA clubhouse due to the weather. I do apologise to poor Shrek who was accidentally knocked off his feet by a table which slipped to the floor as a direct result of all my jumping around! We were lucky the Health and Safety Officer wasn't around!!!! Looking forward to next year!! Summer camp ran for the four weeks in July this year. Liv O'Donoghue, a professional dancer from Wicklow who has been teaching with our Summer Workshops for 5 years now, taught the first 2 weeks of Summer Camp along with Sophia as resource teacher, and I taught with Sophia in the latter 2 weeks. The first and third weeks were attended by students aged 4-8 years, and participated in creative dance, arts and dance crafts and an introduction to other styles of dance for the older students. The second and fourth weeks were attended by 9-teenagers in commercial dance styles. The first senior week even made a music video and l!! I was approached by the Twinning Committee of Wicklow with the opportunity to take 4 senior dancers to Tirgu Mures in Romania to participate in 'EUROPE EN SCENE', a week-long event bringing young people from Ireland, England, Germany, France and Romania together. We spent 2 weeks preparing a 15-minute creative dance piece with the theme of social inclusion, and performed it for family, friends and the Twinning committee in the studio. We flew out to Romania on 4th July and spent a week sight-seeing and rehearsing for the end-of-week performance which was broadcasted locally and attended by the delegates from each country, including our own Mayor Smullen.
It was a tough, yet enjoyable week through which we have made some good friends and look forward to welcoming them to our town next year! We are gratefull for the opportunity! Accompaning me were Dawn Walsh and Megan Byrne, senior students of FYI Dance Club; Chelsea Bonus, a past pupil of FYI Dance Club and Wicklow School of Dance; Hazel Hodgins, past pupil of FYI Dance Club and Wicklow School of Dance & is currently studying for a Dance Degree in University of Limerick. What a weekend!! Superb weather, a great turn-out, 4 performances by FYI Dance CLub. |
